SGL Resourcing Ltd - New Sponsorship Deal

SGL are helping out Tom Simm, a local Golf Professional in his quest to one day play on tour alongside Tiger Woods.

Tom, a 25 year old professional golfer currently living in Sandy, Beds and based at Gog Magog Golf Club in Cambridge, was introduced to golf by his grandparents when he was the tender age of 8 years.  Enjoying the strike of the ball at such an impressionable age, Tom’s competitive nature took over and he found a love of golf which would see him turn his dream into reality some years later.

Maybe down to Tom’s commitment, he was fortunate enough to be moved up an academic school year to study his A-Levels at the age of 15 years.  Tom continued to play and practice golf in his spare time wherever he could; lunchtimes on the school fields; before and after school; getting lifts to the local golf course, so when his parents told him their wish for him to attend Cambridge University once schooling complete, Tom took the brave decision instead of opting to follow his heart to become a professional sportsman.

On his return to England and literally a week before commencement for a secured place at University, Tom was approached by Lee Scarbrow, the Head Professional at John O’Gaunt Golf Club and Ian Poulters former employer and coach who offered him the opportunity to turn professional.  Without hesitation Tom set about fulfilling his dream job and turned professional in 2006 at the age of 20 years after a successful debut season. At 17 years, Tom took a gap year before attending University to read Golf Studies and Business which in his words was a “compromise for mum!” and it was in this year that he had planned to step his golf up to the next level.  He spent the winter in Spain and Portugal practicing, playing and coaching friends earning him extra money to enjoy the sport he had come to love.  Shortly afterwards he spent 3 months in Massachusetts , America as a sports coach looking after 7-8 year olds around the clock at summer camp.

Away from his passion for playing golf, Tom enjoys going to the gym, playing competitive sport and coaching golf to children.  His family is extremely supportive of him, even through the emotional highs and lows which can affect the performance of any good sportsman.  However Tom continues to learn by these pressure situations and shows confidence in the way he handles himself.

Tom is excited at the forthcoming season with this new sponsorship deal offered by SGL Resourcing Ltd and believes that with his competitive streak, both he and SGL are destined for a thoroughly successful year.  SGL Resourcing MD quotes” I am very pleased to have Tom on board and will aim as a sponsor to make his dreams come true through professional sponsorship!”.
